Description
Articuno takes the form of a large bird with predominantly blue plumage. Its coloring is a cyan on its long streamer-like tail and head crest. Its head crest is fairly simple, consisting of three rhombus-shaped feathers on its forehead. Its body is a sky-blue, growing lighter on its chest and belly. Its most distinctive feature is its large wings, which look like they are made of ice. It has a small gray beak and thin, similarly-colored legs. Articuno's name comes from combining the words "arctic" (frozen wasteland), and "uno," which is Spanish for one. The other two birds have similar naming conventions. This Ice/Flying [[Types |type]] can create powerful blizzards by freezing moisture in the open air. Articuno is part of the Legendary Bird Trio along with Zapdos and Moltres.
Storyline
Articuno, along with Zapdos and Moltres, can be seen chasing Ash and Gary in the cutscene prior to Mt. Moon 2. When Ash escapes to Cerulean, Gary is left alone to fight the birds.
In the cutscene before Diglett's Cave, Gary is seen successfully escaping the trio by returning his Fearow and having Alakazam use Gravity.
In version 3.3, Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno were available on some levels as Bosses.
