Description

Pikachu is an Electric-type Pokémon and the first and signature Pokémon of Ash Ketchum. If it feels it is in danger, it will pop up its ears and tail. If that doesn't work, it will try Thundershock, Thunderbolt, or even Thunder if it knows how. It is a worthy ally if well trained.

Your friend, Joey, has always wanted a Pikachu and has even tried disguising himself as a Pikachu to catch one. He finally catches a Pikachu in Viridian Forest 2. Joey's Pikachu knows Thundershock and Thunder Wave. In one of the levels Ash loses his Pikachu and Joey offers to give him his.

Ash's Pikachu also makes an appearance later in the storyline. It saves Gary from Zapdos and follows you to Cinnabar Island. Before you begin Cinnabar Gym, Ash's Pikachu leaves with Kyogre for Viridian City.

  • Pikachu is the only Electric-type Pokémon to evolve with the Thunder Stone in PTD at the moment.
    • Eevee, which is a Normal-type, is the only other Pokémon able to use a Thunder Stone.
  • There are multiple Pikachu visible in the Game Menu. They are:
    • Surfing Pikachu
    • Flying Balloon Pikachu
    • Regular Pikachu
  • Pikachu is one of two Pokémon required to complete the Shiny Quest, the other being Electrode. Unlike Electrode, however, you are required to catch ten Pikachu (Without closing the game) in addition to having one at or above level 42.
  • Samuel Otero occasionally gives out Surfing and Flying balloon Pikachu to fans as promotional items.
